Recently, a friend purchased the king of meme coins. DOGECOIN, on Binance. He was thinking about adding the Dogecoin Network to Metamask and sending some DOGE to his Metamask wallet.
HOWEVER …. WOW!
Can You add Dogecoin to Metamask?
Unfortunately, you cannot add Dogecoin to Metamask directly. The only way to add DOGE to Metamask is by using an Ethereum-compatible network like the Dogechain or Binance Smart Chain. In other words, adding a Doge version that can run on the Dogechain (Wrapped WDOGE) or BNB Chain (Binance-PEG DOGE).
Metamask is only compatible with Ethereum-based tokens (ERC-20) and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks. In other words, you cannot run the iOS operating system on an Android device (and vice versa).
If you are looking to add DOGE to Metamask, here’s a quick guide:
How to Add Dogecoin to Metamask
Adding dogecoin to Metamask is a 3-step process:
Method 1 (EASY): Add Binance-PEG DOGE
Adding Dogecoin Network to Metamask directly is not possible. The Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) is one of the Metamask-compatible blockchains. To make advantage of it, we must first convert DOGE to Binance-PEG DOGE.
Here is my 3-step process:
- Step 1: Add the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) Network
- Step 2: Add the Binance-PEG DOGE to your Metamask Wallet
- Step 3: Withdraw/Send your DOGE using the Binance Smart Chain
Method 2 (ADVANCED): Add Wrapped WDOGE Token
The second option is a little more complicated, requiring you to add the Dogechain Network (a bridge) to your Metamask wallet. Then exchange Dogecoin for Wrapped WDOGE Token.
Here is my 3-step process:
- Step 1: Add the Dogechain Blockchain Network (the bridge)
- Step 2: Deposit Native DOGE to the Bridge
- Step 3: Wait for 6 confirmations to receive your WDOGE Token
NOTE: Bear in mind that this is not the native Dogecoin version (it is a workaround). Wrapped WDOGE, however, allows users to participate in NFTs, games, or DeFi.

1. How to Add DOGE to Metamask in 3 Steps
As stated in the intro, the only way to add Dogecoin to Metamask is to wrap it on the Binance Smart Chain (Binance-PEG Dogecoin) or the Dogechain (Wrapped WDOGE). In other words, converting doge to a dogecoin version that can be transferred via an Ethereum-compatible network.
In this section, you’ll learn to add DOGE to your Metamask wallet.
In METHOD 1 you’ll add the Binance-PEG DOGE.
In METHOD 2 you’ll use the Dogechain bridge to add WDOGE
I will not leave any stone unturned (If you are new, DON’T WORRY!)
Method 1 – How to Add Binance-PEG DOGE
The first method you can use to add Dogecoin to your Metamask Wallet is to convert your original DOGE to a wrapped version that can run on the Binance Smart Chain. In other words, converting DOGE to Binance-PEG DOGE.
Binance-PEG DOGE is a token that runs on the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) and is fully backed (100%) by the native coin in reserve.
The Binance-PEG DOGE is pegged 1:1 to the value of Dogecoin (DOGE), which means that it has the same value as the native Dogecoin token (1 DOGE = 1 Binance-PEG DOGE).
Note: Keep in mind that this is not the original (native) Doge token. If you want to engage with the Dogecoin ecosystem, you’ll need Dogecoin in its native form or a variant that can, such as WDOGE.
If you understand this, let’s add Dogecoin (DOGE) to your Metamask Wallet using the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain).
STEP 1: Add Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) to Metamask
1. The first thing we have to do is to add the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) to your Metamask. By default, you have the Ethereum Mainnet.
2. Click on says Ethereum Mainnet and then click the “add networks” button.
You can either add the BNB Chain automatically from the list (BNB Smart Chain – previously Binance Smart Chain Mainnet) or manually (copy the data exactly as you see below).
Network Name: BNB Smart Chain
New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
ChainID: 56
Symbol: BNB
Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com
3. Close the window and select the BNB Smart Chain Network.
STEP 2: Add Token (Binance-PEG DOGE) on Metamask
1. To add the Binance-PEG token we need to ensure that we are using the right token contract address.
You can find the token contract address on coinmarketcap or BSCScan.
BEP20 Binance-PEG DOGE Contract Address: [0xba2ae424d960c26247dd6c32edc70b295c744c43]
Copy the address
2. The second thing is to unlock your Metamask wallet with your password
3. Then, on the initial screen go to import tokens. Select “add custom token”, paste the pegged DOGE token address and click on “import token.” You should see DOGE token symbol displayed on your wallet.
STEP 3: Send/Withdraw DOGE using the BNB Smart Chain
If your DOGE sits on an exchange like Binance or another wallet, you will need to withdraw/send your DOGE to your Metamask Wallet.
How to transfer DOGE from Binance to Metamask?
Here are the steps to withdraw Dogecoin from Binance to Metamask Wallet.
Note: Ensure that the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) is enabled and set as your default network.
Binance: Go to wallet > fiat & spot > Next to Dogecoin click on Withdraw > input Metamask wallet* > select BSC (BEP20) > withdrawal amount > Click Withdraw.
*In Metamask, the wallet address is under your account name (initial page). Ensure you are on the right network (Smart Chain). Easy, RIGHT?
NOTE: Only send DOGE to your Metamask wallet via the Binance Smart Chain (BEP20). Do not send Dogecoin (DOGE) native tokens to your Metamask wallet using a different network than the BNB Chain or you risk losing your funds. Despite having the same value, Dogecoin (DOGE) and Binance-PEG DOGE are distinct tokens running on different blockchains.
METHOD 2 – How to add Wrapped WDOGE to Metamask
The second method you’ll learn is a little bit more complicated. We will connect the native dogecoin blockchain to an EVM-compatible bridge (dogechain network) that can be used on Metamask.
What is Dogechain?
Dogechain is a way to bring crypto applications like NFTs, games, and DeFi to the Dogecoin community. In essence, Dogechain is an EVM-compatible bridge that supercharges Dogecoin capabilities (beyond just HODL to the moon!).
Without further delay, let’s use that fancy blockchain bridge
STEP 1: Add Dogechain to Metamask
The first thing we need before receiving our Wrapped WDOGE is to add the Dogechain to Metamask. Here are the steps:
- The first step is to go to the Dogechain bridge’s official homepage.
- Simply connect your wallet and the Dogechain RPC will be added to your Metamask automatically.
- A signature request will pop up. To use the bridge simply click on “Sign.”
Alternatively, you can add the network manually by going to add a network and add a network manually. Here are the RPC Dogechain details:
- Network name: DogeChain
- New RPC URL: https://rpc01.dogechain.dog
- Chain ID: 2000
- Currency symbol: DOGE
- Block explorer URL(Optional): https://explorer.dogechain.dog
STEP 2: Deposit Native DOGE to the Bridge
To “reveal the address to send Dogecoin to” just click on confirm.
Then go to your exchange (for instance Binance) and withdraw your Doge to the bridge platform deposit address.
Here are the steps to withdraw Dogecoin from Binance to Dogechain:
Binance: Go to wallet > fiat & spot > Next to Dogecoin click on Withdraw > Input bridge platform address (copy dogecoin platform address) > Select DOGE Network > withdrawal amount* > Click Withdraw.
Note*: Ensure you are depositing at least 100 DOGE to the bridge. A smaller amount will not trigger the smart contract required to send wDoge to your Metamask wallet.
STEP 3: Wait for 6 confirmations to receive your WDOGE Token
It functions similarly to a vending machine.
When you deposit 100 DOGE into the platform’s wallet, a smart contract mints the corresponding number of wDOGE and sends it to your Metamask Dogechain address.
It WASN’T that difficult, isn’t it?
2. Conclusion
The Dogecoin network does not natively support the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Which means that can’t be added directly to your Metamask Wallet.
Metamask can only be set up with EVM-compatible networks such as Ethereum, Avalanche, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, etc.
To add Dogecoin to Metamask we have to create a token version that can run on EVM-compatible networks. We have two options:
Method 1 (Easy): Add Binance-PEG DOGE to Metamask
- Step 1: Add the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain) Network
- Step 2: Add the Binance-Peg DOGE to your Metamask Wallet
- Step 3: Withdraw/Send your DOGE using the Binance Smart Chain
Method 2 (Advanced): Add Wrapped WDOGE Token
- Step 1: Add the Dogechain Blockchain Network (the bridge)
- Step 2: Deposit Native DOGE to the Bridge platform
- Step 3: Wait for 6 confirmations to receive your WDOGE Token
If you wish to hold the original Dogecoin (DOGE) rather than a wrapped version and keep your coins safe. We recommend a hardware wallet such as the Ledger Nano X, Ellipal, or Safepal.
