If you want to start tinkering with the Flare ecosystem, you might be wondering how to add Flare Network to Metamask.
Flare Network is a Layer-1 Ethereum Compatible (EVM) blockchain that allows developers to access data (asset prices, data indices, etc) and build dApps without relying on centralized providers. Flare Network uses two protocols to do this: The State Connector and The Flare Time Series Oracles (FTSO).
To enjoy Flare Network, you must have a web3 wallet like Metamask. Metamask is a leading Web3 wallet that lets users connect with decentralized apps (dApps) on the Ethereum Blockchain. It’s both a browser extension and a mobile app (iOS and Android).
How to Add FLARE Network to Metamask?
Adding Flare Network to Metamask is easier than you think.
Here’s our quick 5-Step Process:
STEP 1. Unlock your Metamask Wallet
STEP 2. Click on the Network Dropdown Box
STEP 3. Click The Add Network Button
STEP 4. Click on “Add a Network Manually”
STEP 5. Input FLARE RPC Custom Details and “Save”
Note: You can also add the network automatically, keep reading to know how!
Sinple isn’t it?
If you want a DETAILED, step-by-step guide here’s what we’ll cover:
1. How to Add Flare to Metamask in 5 STEPS
The Flare Network is an interoperable, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible network. That means Solidity developers can use Flare to launch any EVM dapp they can envision.
As a result, it can be easily added to Metamask.
To connect to the Flare Network via Metamask you need the right custom RPC points: network name, New RPC URL, Chain ID, and Currency symbol.
Before we start, ensure that:
- You have a computer or mobile device with an internet connection
- You have Metamask Installed on a supporting web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge) or mobile device (iOS or Android).
- Understand Crypto 101, in particular, DeFi.
NOTE: If you haven’t installed Metamask on your browser or mobile devices please head to the Metamask official website, download the application and create a wallet. Always keep your recovery phrase in a safe place.
Let’s start tinkering with FLARE!
STEP 1: Unlock your Metamask Wallet
The first step is to unlock your Metamask Wallet extension or mobile Android/iOS device. Click the browser extension (or mobile app) and enter your secure password in the box.
STEP 2: Click on the Network Dropdown Box
When you unlock your wallet, you’ll see the name of your default network as well as a dropdown arrow. Click that option to see a list of all your available networks.
Note: On mobile devices, select the hamburger menu.
STEP 3: Click Add Network Button
At the bottom of your list of available networks, you’ll see an Add Network Button. Hit this button (DON’T Break your Keyword!) to add a new network to Metamask.
Note: On mobile devices, go to Settings and Select Networks
STEP 4: Click on “Add a Network Manually”
Following that, you’ll see a screen with the option to automatically add other networks. Unfortunately, Boba Network is not on that list. So, we will need to add it manually.
Click on [Add a Network Manually]
Note: On mobile devices, Click on “Add Network.”
STEP 5: Input FLARE RPC Network Details and Save
The final step is to input the RPC custom details. RPC (remote procedure call) is a URL that allows you to connect to a server node (for example, the FLARE server) and interact with that Blockchain.
There are two kinds of Flare networks. The production or real network, known as Flare Network (Mainnet), and the Flare testing network, known as Flare Testnet Coston2 (do not CONFUSE IT with Testnet Coston!).
If you are not a developer that wants to test their dApps before implementing them on the “real” blockchain, you can disregard the Flare Tesnet information.
Note: On mobile devices switch to custom networks and fill up the RPC Custom Details. Then, click “Add.”
Fill in:
- Flare Mainnet Info:
- Network name: Flare
- New RPC URL: https://flare-api.flare.network/ext/C/rpc
- Chain ID: 14
- Currency symbol: FLR
- Block explorer URL(Optional): https://flare-explorer.flare.network
Adding Flare Blockchain Explorer is optional, but it is always a good idea to fill out all of the information and know where to verify all FLARE blockchain transactions.
Flare Testnet Info:
- Network name: Flare Testnet Coston2
- New RPC URL: https://coston2-api.flare.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
- Chain ID: 114
- Currency symbol: C2FLR
- Block explorer URL(Optional): https://coston2-explorer.flare.network
After you input all the details, just click “Save” and Voilá!, your default network (E.g., Ethereum Mainnet) will be switched automatically to the Flare Network.
Now you are ready to interact with the FLARE Blockchain Platform!
Note: Alternatively, you can add the Flare Network automatically to your Metamask by connecting your wallet on ChainList (select Flare Mainnnet or Flare Testnet Coston2). Read More: Add A Network To Metamask Automatically [IN ONE CLICK]
2. Conclusion
Adding Flare Network to Metamask is easier than you think.
The Flare Network is an L1 EVM Blockchain with enhanced contract functionality. Flare pulls information from other blockchains and Web2 apps like asset prices, data indices, and more. It delivers that information on-chain in a secure and decentralized manner.
We have seen how to add FLARE Blockchain to Metamask Wallet.
Here’s a quick reminder:
- Step 1: Unlock your Metamask Wallet
- Step 2: Click on the Network Dropdown Box
- Step 3: Click The Add Network Button
- Step 4: Click on “Add a Network Manually”
- Step 5: Input FLARE Network RPC Custom Details and “Save”
