Recently, a friend wanted to unlock the full potential of the Metis Andromeda ecosystem, and he was asking me how to add Metis RPC to Metamask. But first, let’s quickly go over what Metis Andromeda is.

Metis Andromeda is a Layer-2 scaling solution (Metis Rollup) for Ethereum. Their goal is to help businesses, applications, and communities in making the transition from Web2 to Web3.

In other words, Metis aims to make blockchain accessible to us (MORTALS!), so we can create DACs (Decentralized Autonomous Companies).

To enjoy Matis Network, you must have a web3 wallet like Metamask. Metamask is a leading Web3 wallet that lets users connect with decentralized apps (dApps) on the Ethereum Blockchain. It’s both a browser extension and a mobile app (iOS and Android).

1. How to Add Metis to Metamask Fast

MetisDAO is an EVM-compatible network. That means solidity developers can use Metis’s power to build NFT and Social Media platforms, run gaming and freelancing communities, and create DeFi dApps like DEX trading and yield farming. All for a fraction of the cost of Ethereum.

As a result, it can be easily added to Metamask.

To connect to the Metis Network via Metamask you need the right custom RPC points: network name, New RPC URL, Chain ID, and Currency symbol. 

Before you start, Ensure that:

• You have a computer or mobile device with an internet connection
• You have Metamask Installed on a supporting web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge) or mobile device (iOS or Android). 
• Understand Crypto 101, in particular, DeFi. 

NOTE: If you haven’t installed Metamask on your browser or mobile devices please head to the Metamask official website, download the application and create a wallet. Always keep your recovery phrase in a safe place. 

Let’s start tinkering with Metis DAO!

STEP 1: Unlock your Metamask Wallet

The first step is to unlock your Metamask Wallet extension or mobile Android/iOS device. Click the browser extension (or mobile app) and enter your secure password in the box.

STEP 2: Click on the Network Dropdown Box

When you unlock your crypto wallet, you’ll see the name of your default network as well as a dropdown arrow. Click that option to see a list of all your available networks.

Note: On mobile devices, select the hamburger menu.

STEP 3: Click Add Network Button

At the bottom of your list of available networks, you’ll see an Add Network Button. Hit this button (DON’T Break your Keyword!) to add a new network to Metamask.

Note: On mobile devices, go to Settings and Select Networks

STEP 4: Click on “Add a Network Manually”

Following that, you’ll see a screen with the option to automatically add other networks. Unfortunately, Metis Andromeda Network is not on that list. So, we will need to add it manually. 

Click on [Add a Network Manually]

Note: On mobile devices, Click on “Add Network.” 

STEP 5: Input METIS RPC Network Details and Save

The final step is to input the RPC Blockchain Network details. RPC (remote procedure call) is a URL that allows you to connect to a server node (for example, the Metis server) and interact with that Blockchain.

There are two kinds of Metis networks. The production or real network, known as Metis Mainnet, and the Metis testing network, known as Metis Testnet. 

If you are not a developer that wants to test their dApps before implementing them on the “real” blockchain, you can disregard the Metis Tesnet information.

Note: On mobile devices switch to custom networks and fill up the Metis RPC Metamask Details. Then, click “Add.” 

What is Metis RPC Details?

Metis Mainnet Info: 

• Network name: Metis Andromeda Mainnet
• New RPC URL: https://andromeda.metis.io/?owner=1088
• Chain ID: 1088
• Currency symbol: METIS
• Block explorer URL(Optional): https://andromeda-explorer.metis.io

Adding Metis Blockchain Explorer is optional, but it is always a good idea to fill out all of the information and know where to verify all Metis blockchain transactions.

Metis Testnet Info: 

• Network name: Metis Stardust Testnet
• New RPC URL: https://stardust.metis.io/?owner=588
• Chain ID: 588
• Currency symbol: METIS
• Block explorer URL(Optional): https://stardust-explorer.metis.io

After you input all the details, just click “Save” and Voilá!, your default network (E.g., Ethereum Mainnet) will be switched automatically to the Metis Andromeda Network. 

Now you are ready to interact with the Metis Blockchain Platform!

Note: Alternatively, you can add the Metis Network automatically to your Metamask by connecting your wallet on ChainList (select Metis Mainnnet or Metis Stardust/Goerli Testnet).
